90% of the nearly 45 million blind and 135 million visually disabled people worldwide live in developing countries. 80% of blindness is avoidable (preventable or curable). eyeSIGHT INTERNATIONAL’S core mission is aiding VISION2020-The Right to Sight or the Global Initiative to Eliminate Avoidable Blindness, as defined by the WHO and IAPB.
We endorse and promote the World Council of Optometry’s Concept of Optometry:
Optometry is a healthcare profession that is autonomous, educated, and regulated (licensed/registered), and optometrists are the primary healthcare practitioners of the eye and visual system who provide comprehensive eye and vision care, which includes refraction and dispensing, detection/diagnosis and management of disease in the eye, and the rehabilitation of conditions of the visual system.
